The Pootatuck is a very productive tributary of the Housatonic River. The Candlewood Valley chapter of Trout Unlimited is working very hard to conserve and restore it.
Deep Brook is a Class 1 Wild Trout Management Area. This includes approximately 1 mile (posted) of the Pootatuck River: 1/2 mile upstream and 1/2 mile downstream of its confluence with Deep Brook.
Unfortunately these jewels are threatened by oil spills and increases in impervious surfaces due to sprawl. However, the Pootatuck has sections protected from development by fish and game clubs. Sometimes large stocked trout make their way down to the Catch-and-Release section, surprising and delighting anglers.
Trout Unlimited is America’s leading coldwater conservation organization. Our hope is that clean, cold, fishable water exists for generations to come, but we can’t do it without the support of committed anglers and conservationists like you.
