Earth Day Celebrations – Volunteers Wanted!

We’ll be supporting the towns of Fairfield and Weston in their Earth Day celebrations and volunteers are needed to staff our table by talking about Trout Unlimited, local fishing, and by proving casting lessons to new comers to the sport.

Fairfield Earth Day Celebrations
The Fairfield event will be held May 2 from 10:00-1:00 at the YMCA at 841 Old Post Rd. Some important notes about the event are:

  • There will be no parking at the YMCA during the event.  This provides a much safer experience for all during the event.
  • The Fairfield YMCA is providing a shuttle service throughout the day going between First Church, the Y and the Town Hall parking lots.
  • We have an event “Passport” that the attendees can obtain and are encouraged to get them stamped from organizations tabling at both events.  They turn in the passports to receive a chance to win a small prize.
  • Both venues have food trucks: First Church will have Shwarma Karam and Bo’s Dough, the Fairfield YMCA will have Bodega, Cinnabomb and Alene’s Ice Cream.  First Church has asked that no food be brought inside during the event.
  • The First Selectperson, Christine Vitale, will provide a Welcome Message at 11am and move between the two venues to do it twice.  The Trashy Fashions Show, along with children who have made musical instruments out of recyclable materials, will follow her in a procession between the venues.
  • All information about exhibitors, schedule, etc can be found at https://sustainablefairfield.org/earth-day/.
  • The Police Department will be on hand for many things, including traffic control and helping attendees walk safely between the two venues.
  • Set up is 9-10am.
  • Clean up is 1-2pm.
  • The event is Rain or Shine and the weather report looks favorable for a lovely day.  IF there is inclement weather ALL exhibitors except the ReSale and the FLHS Eco Club will move indoors.

Weston Earth Day Celebrations
The Weston event will happen on May 3 from 11:00-3:00 and will be held at Lachat Town Farm at 106 Godfrey Rd, Weston, CT. Some important notes about this event are:

  • Set up is 9-10am.
  • Rain or Shine: Please dress accordingly; the event is outdoors, and we plan to move forward even if some rain is forecasted. Waterproof footwear is recommended—Lachat fields can be muddy even on sunny days
  • Food:  they can not provide food for participants, but they will have several AMAZING food vendors who are part of the event: Tony’s Pizza, RastaRant (Vegan Carribean), Grumpy Dumpling, Kneads Bakery/Cafe, MOMU Ice Cream, and Lachat’s coffee/sweets café.  Please consider bringing some cash/credit card and supporting our food vendors.
  • Bottle/Can Drive:  They are hosting a bottle/can drive and for every 25 redeemable bottles/cans you bring, you are entered into a drawing for $250!  Participants are encouraged to participate so start gathering up those redeemables!

If you are able to support either or both of these events, please send an e-mail ASAP to Matt Rivnak at mattrivnak@gmail.com
